Make Life Skate Life, together with Climate Skaters Kiteezi and the local skate community, is getting ready to build Uganda’s first public concrete skatepark that meets international standards. The Kiteezi Skatepark is set to become a space where young people can hang out, learn, and skate safely.
This project comes at a time when Kiteezi really needs positive spaces for the community. The recent collapse of the Kiteezi landfill was a huge tragedy, taking lives, displacing families, and worsening environmental problems. The skatepark will give local youth a safe place to gather and connect while also bringing attention to environmental issues.
The skatepark will be much bigger than the small DIY spot local kids put together in 2023. It will cover 450 m² and include a community classroom built from a repurposed shipping container.
More than 100 young people are expected to use the space every week. Girls will be encouraged to join, and programs will include environmental education alongside skateboarding.
Cynthia Kemigisha, Founder and Director of Climate Skaters Kiteezi, is leading the local effort, making sure the skatepark reflects the community’s needs and ideas.
Fundraising and site prep are happening now through December 2025, with construction set to start in early January 2026. The skatepark and community programs will officially open in February 2026.
An international build team, with an equal number of women and men, will lead construction, showing MLSL’s focus on inclusion and giving female leaders a central role.
Local youth and volunteers will also be part of the building process, helping make the skatepark a truly community-driven space.
Big thanks to Kaspar Van Lierop for helping bring this project to light, and shout out to Nestor Judkins’ Salad Days of Skateboarding for doing similar projects around the world.

The Kiteezi Skatepark is more than just a place to skate. It’s a space for learning, creativity, and connection, giving local youth a reason to dream and grow right in their own neighborhood.
